The square baler needle 700182231 is the long curved needle that lifts the twine from the knotter and pushes it through the bale chamber on Massey Ferguson and Challenger large square balers. Each tie cycle the needle travels up through the completed flake, presents the twine to the bill hook and returns, so its straightness and tip condition determine whether the knot forms cleanly or not at all.

Needles fail in service for predictable reasons: a bent needle protector, a mis-timed knotter or crop packed into the needle path. Before fitting a replacement it is worth checking the protector and the timing, because a new needle in a distorted frame will simply bend again.
